These are mostly in alphabetical order. Except when they're in chronological order. Or when they're in mostuslikus order.

Dismal

Days marked as unlucky on medieval calenders [from the French]

Evil

Quotes:

  • "I mean, some mornings you just don't feel very evil. But you get out of bed everyday whether you like it or not and you destroy souls because it's your job!" -The Devil - God, The Devil, And Bob-

Hedgehogs

Supernatural:

  • "On a more mundane level some people have suggested that the [crop] circles are formed by wild creatures such as hedgehogs"
  • "Chargrin (or Harginn) is a gypsy word for a mischiveous ghost that most often takes the form of a large yellow hedgehog, which always foretells some impending disaster" -The International Directory of Haunted Places-

Schloss Reichenstein

Facts [?]:

  • "Schloss Reichenstein is an eleventh-century castle on the Rhine River between the towns of Bingen and Koblenz. A two-mile-long road leads up to the castle from the hamlet of Trechtingshausen. The castle was the headquarters for a band of robber knights in the late thirteenth century. When they were finally caught and brought to justice by Emperor Rudolf von Habsburg in 1282, their leader, Dietrich von Hohenfels, begged the Emperor to take his life but spare the lives of his nine sons, who had assisted their fahter in his illegal rampages. The Emperor decided to leave the matter in "God's Hands". The criminals were brought to a clearing just below the castle and lined up in a row, where the St. Clement Chapel now stands. Then the Emperor told Dietrich that he was going to behead him, but every one of his sons that he could run past after being beheaded would be spared. With his sons lined up before him, the executioner severed Dietrich's head with one mighty blow of the sword. Dietrich's head rolled to the ground, but his bloodied torso stood erect and lunged forward, stumling and swaying, until it passed every one of his sons. Finally, the headless body fell to its knees, a fountain of blood shooting high into the air where its head had been. Several witnesses fainted and all present beseached the Emperor to keep his word, which he did. In an act of repentance, the von Hohenfels family erected the St. Clement Chapel on the spot where the bizarre execution took place, and sometimes, inside the chapel, Dietrich vo  Hohenfel's headless apparition can be seen repeating his grotesque run to save his sons. Dietrich is buried on the property, and his red sandstone marker depicts a knight in armor - with no head" -The International Directory of Haunted Places-

Teenagers

Definition:

  • "The word 'teen' has some interesting obsolete meanings that seem to echo faintly today. For seven centuries, 'teen' meant a source of anger, irritation, or anxiety; an often apt description of one's offspring. It also meant barrier, and 'teenage' [with a short a] was wood long enough for making a high fence; a meaning with resonance for young people who feel being categorized as a teenager limits their freedom" -The Rise and Fall of the American Teenager-

Quotes:

  • "Teenagers scare the livin' #@$% out of me/ They don't care as long as someone'll bleed/ So darken your clothes/ And strike a violent pose/ Maybe they'll leave you alone/ But not me" -My Chemical Romance - Teenagers-

Other:

  • "America has created the teenager in its own image - brash, unfinished, ebullient, idealistic, crude, energetic, innocent, greedy, changing in all sorts of unsetteling ways. A messy, sometimes loutish character who is nonetheless capable of performing heroically when necessary, the teenager embodies endless potential not yet hobbled by the defeats and compromises of life. The American teenager is the noble savage in blue jeans, the future in your face." -The Rise and Fall of the American Teenager-

Time

Facts:

  • "On only four days a year is clock time equal to sun time. As it happens, the days fall on or about April 15 [no relation to taxes], June 14 [no relation to flags], September 2 [no relation to labor], and December 25 [no relation to Jesus]." -Death by Black Hole-

Venutians

Facts:

  • "Were we to find life-forms of Venus, we would probably call them Venutians, just as people from Mars would be called Martians. But according to the use of Latin genitives, to be 'of Venus' ought to make you Venereal. Unfortunately, medical doctors reached that word before astronomers did. Can't blame them, I suppose. Venereal disease predates astronomy, which itself stands as only the second oldest profession."
